The company originated from the foundry Friedrichshütte GmbH, also located in Laubach, which is engaged in gray and nodular iron casting of complex parts. Its origins can be traced back to 1707. This makes Friedrichshütte one of the oldest industrial companies still active in Germany today.
Count Friedrich Ernst zu Solms founded the Friedrichshütte, which was leased by Julius Römheld in 1870. This marked the beginning of a history of expansion and innovation: a few years later, Römheld opened an ironworks, and in 1948 the Maschinenfabrik und Eisengießerei A. Römheld KG was also established. Römheld GmbH Friedrichshütte moved to its present location in Laubach in 1967 and quickly made a name for itself as an innovative manufacturer of clamping technology with inventions such as the block cylinder and the swing clamp.
